This in itself is not usually hard, but how much damage can three chords do anyhow?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jerrydallal.com\/cp_copyright.htm\">The song was written in 1901<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jean_C._Havez\">Jean Havez<\/a>.   Gid Tanner and Faith Norris, also known as <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/Category:Skillet_Lickers\">The Skillet Lickers<\/a>, did a recording in 1926.   There&#8217;s a Charlie Poole recording in 1926, after the Tanner\/Norris version.   There&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/memory.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/query\/r?ammem\/cowellbib:@field%28NUMBER+@band%28afccc+a4218b2%29%29\">a 1939 recording<\/a> in the Library of Congress&#8217; archive of California folk music from the 30s.
